Why use a dynamometer
By   Dynomec   Dated on:   2008-06-11

A chassis dynamometer measures power delivered to the surface of the \"drive roller\" by the drive wheels. The vehicle is often parked on the roller or rollers, which the car then turns and the output is measured.

Most engine problems occur during driving. If you want to make a correct diagnosis, it is vital to do a test drive on the road. This of course can be dangerous but also can be very time-consuming. The ideal situation is to simulate the on-road conditions in the workshop! This is possible with a Dynomec dynamometer. The Dynomec dynamometers are the ideal tool to make an optimal simulation of on-road conditions.

Apart from being a diagnostic tool, a Dynomec roller chassis dynamometer is also the perfect tool for tuning and research & development purposes. The Dynomec dynamometers are ideal for mapping the engine management system on a bike or a car, as "on road" conditions can be perfectly simulated. For making a correct map, it is necessary to load the bike or car under several conditions with various rpm and throttle opening settings. Remember, if the test takes too long, the bike gets overheated and you can NEVER achieve a correct map!

Have you ever thought about the purposes for which you can use a dynamometer?

Dynomec dynamometers are multi purpose dynamometers and can be used as:

Diagnostic tool:

Simulation of conditions on the road

- Possibility to do high speed testing in the workshop, no speed limit on the dyno!
- Cost saving on hourly rate, as test driver can do the test drive in the workshop
- Time saving, as tests can be realised in the workshop
- Safety of your employees, as test drive can be realised in the workshop
- Avoid bad weather, realise the test in the workshop
- (loaded) emission control
- Measurement of air fuel ratio under load (if the bike shows bad performance)
- Testing of mounted parts (E.g. sprockets and chains) under load, in the workshop
- Measurement of misfiring under load
- Possibility to check clutch slip, cooling capacity, etc

Tuning:

- Power commander mapping
- No tuning link required! Up to 5% more results on your tuning job when tuning WITHOUT   tuning link!
- Engine management mapping
- On request training program available
- Engine fine tuning under load
- etc

Research & development

- Development of exhaust systems
- Development of air-filters
- Development of special race parts (pistons, cylinders etc)
- etc

Generate your own test reports for:

- trade in of used bikes
- sales of used bikes
- showing the difference in performance after mounting special parts (exhaust systems etc)
- etc
